Lata Mangeshkar Birthday Special: Legendary Singer To Be Honoured With ‘Daughter Of The Nation’ Title On Her 90th Birthday

Prime Minister Narendra Modi government will be honouring legendary playback singer Lata Mangeshkar with ‘Daughter Of The Nation’ title on her 90th birthday, that is, on September 28, 2019. Lyricist Prasoon Joshi has also penned a special song for the occasion honouring Lata Mangeshkar

Legendary playback singer Lata Mangeshkar will turn a year older and celebrate her 90th birthday on September 28. The Nightingale of India, as Lata Mangeshkar is fondly called, has revolutionized the music industry in India and her immense contribution to music is unparalleled. Her long career spans more than seven decades and the melody queen started her Bollywood career with the song Paa Lagoon Kar Jori for Vasant Joglekar’s 1946 movie Aap Ki Seva Mein. Not just Hindi songs, Lata Mangeshkar has recorded songs in several regional as well as foreign languages.

Now,as per a report in IANS, to honour the legendary playback singer Lata Mangeshkar, PM Narendra Modi government will confer the title of “Daughter of the Nation” on the day she turns 90 on September 28. The title will be conferred as a tributeto Lata Mangeshkar’s massive contribution to Indian film music and for this special occasion, poet and lyricist Prasoon Joshi has also penned a special song. A source shared with IANS, “Modiji is a very big fan of Lataji's voice. She represents the collective voice of the Indian nation. Honouring her is to honour the daughter of the nation and that's what we will officially designate her on her 90th birthday.”

Lata Mangeshkar was bestowed with Dadasaheb Phalke Award in 1989 by the Government of India.  She was also awarded the Bharat Ratna and she is the second vocalist to receive this honour after M. S. Subbulakshmi.  The legendary singer also became the first Indian to perform in the Royal Albert Hall in London in 1974.
